spotting scope pockets and tripod pockets? some websites have precious little details.

anyone hate this thing? can it take an elk quarter out?

i did.

it is my long distance pack. i seriously dont know what people are talking about when they say to take my big pack and put it into day-pack mode. seriously?

daypack mode is awful. there are straps all over the place. you have to manage them. and pulling things (like an apple) out of a crumpled down, cinched down, pushed down pack makes no sense to me. it is not comfy or convenient to pull out a jacket from a folded down pack.

i think a daypack needs to be bombproof. it is the pack you use to bring out the first load of meat. the heaviest load really. it is when you are the freshest and most mentally ignorant of the trip ahead. a daypack needs to be clean. snag resistance, climbing thru heavy cover. straps suck.

i am leaning towards the Mystery LongBow.

i think half of my annual hunts are from a truck camp. i need a daypack.

pointysticks, I agree with your assessment of using a big pack as a day pack. That's why we designed our packs the way we did. With most of your gear in the Talon compression pocket, the main packbag compressed, and the frame extensions removed our pack feels and performs like a much less capable pack, but then you can add in the extensions if you make a kill and need to haul meat.
