Building a new elk arrow, could use some suggestions.

Postby Toby » 12 28, 2013 •  [Post 1]

I'll start with my bow specs. I shoot an Elite E32' 60#'s with a 28" draw length, IBO is 335. I could go with either a .400 spine or more than likely a .340 spine left a little longer. Paul was kind enough to send me a 175 grain VPA 3 blade, and a 125 grain Vipertick. I am leaning towards the Vipertrick. I am going to buy some new shaft so will build the arrow around the BH weight and total arrow weight. So, I am mainly looking for total weight recommendations, and any other helpful suggestions.
Thanks
Toby

Any well made moderate to moderately heavy (400 gr-500 gr) arrow with a solid sharp broad-head should be good elk medicine. Just make sure it flies properly. For good arrow flight, have a helical fletch, proper spine and 10%-15% weight forward. Make sure your bow is tuned well for your arrow.

The way it is working out right now, I will probably end up around 420 grains.

Toby, my arrows are 425-426 gr. A 420 gr arrow is great. I have killed elk with 355 grain arrows too, but prefer the heavier ones.
