Ultra Light Hunting Gear List

I am off on a DIY elk hunt in the mountains of Idaho. I have my pack weight to under 40 pounds, but always looking for good ideas on how to reduce weight. Please let me know you thoughts or please share your gear list. Here is my list:

General Camping Gear

· Backpack - Gregory Z55 (3.94 lbs) - .

· Multi-Tool - Leatherman Wave (0.31 lbs) - A bit heavy, but has pliers, a knife/broadhead sharpening surface, a saw, etc.

· Tent - Big Agnes Fly Creek UL 2 (2.94 lbs) - Light and functional. You can save almost a pound by going with the 1 person tent, but I will trade the extra pound for the convenience of the extra space.

· Sleeping Bag - North Face 20 degree (2 lbs) - The bag is over 15 years old at this point, but not worth upgrading to save a few ounces.

· Sleeping Pad - Thermarest Z-Rest (.94 lbs) - It's light and it won't spring a leak. Fine for temperatures above 20 degrees.

· Flashlight - OLight T-10 (.12 lbs) – Just a back-up

· Headlamp - Petzyl Tikka XP 2 (.19 lbs)

· Pack Rain Cover - Badlands (.21 lbs)

Clothing

· Boots - Merrell Moab (2.4lbs) - I am opting for lighter boots. My overall pack weight is less than 40 lbs. I might regret this is if I have to pack out an elk on steep terrain.

· Beanie - Cabela's (.06 lbs)

· Baseball Cap - (.08 lbs)

· Insulating Layer Top - Sitka Traverse (.75 lbs) - At $130, this is a not cheap, but if the temperatures are in the 50s I will end up using this as my only layer for most of the day.

· Liner Gloves (.08 lbs)

· Down Jacket - Patognia (0.73 lbs)

· Underwear - Under Armor Boxers (.20 lbs)

· Socks - 2 Pairs Smart Wool (.41 lbs)

· Pants - Sitka Ascent (.84 lbs)

· Rain Pants - Cabelas Space Rain (.46 lbs)

· Rain Jacket - Cabelas Space Rain (.61 lbs)

· Base Pants - Patagonia Capilene (.33 lbs) - I will use these for sleeping.

· Base Top - Sitka Base Layer (.33 lbs)

Is 40 including food and water ? You can get in the 20s with effort. There is a thread on 24hour campfire in the backpack hunting section about this

I am under 40 with food, and will be just under or over depending on how much water I have with me at the time.

I have a couple of other mouth calls, and a bugle that I had not added to the list yet, but they only add a few ounces.
