Postby Elkhunttoo » 01 14, 2025 •  [Post 1]

I’m looking for reviews on Montec g5 broadheads. They are what I am planning to switch to this next season. Wondering what others experiences are with them??? Thanks

Ive been shooting Montecs since I restarted archery hunting 2008(?) however only because My buddy Dave had done his research. They were just a better broadhead in his opinion. And I respected that.

My daughter shot her first deer and moose with Montecs. Which I gave her.

However, She switched to Muzzy A rep gave her her first Muzzy broadheads

My opinion, is much like what I say about shotgun loads, guns chokes and other loads.
Its still shot placement, most cant shoot as good as our bow, arrows or broadhead. Generally performance of similar products will be "similar

With that said, I still have a Wapiti bumper sticker on my truck, a G5 decal and a DSD decal, and shot G5, Daughter shoots muzzy. I do believe they are more of a Premium products,,, which in reality I cant take advantage of.

Maybe its just me But it seems like my Montecs are tougher to sharpen :)
Over all Ill keep shooting them,,, My daugher will keep shooting Muzzy

Thanks Lefty.

My opinion used to be shot placement too. After hitting a bull right where i wanted to this year and only getting 5 inches of penetration ive changed that opinion and working on doing some more research so hopefully that never happens again. My brother in law killed a bull with a montec in 2022 and really likes them. So far that is what im planning on using this year but wanted to see others experiences with them.

I can only speak of my own experience with Montecs. They are a strong one piece head. However, every one I tried to sharpen never seemed to have a truly straight edge on it. The cutting edge was straight but the bevel on every one of them was not. I had 6 of them. So that would amount to 18 cutting edges. When sharpening them on a good flat stone, there was always a portion about 1/4 of an inch or so long in the middle of the blade that never came into contact with the stone. I could always get a shaving sharp edge on the front and the rear of the blade but there was always that spot in the middle no matter how hard I tried to remove it. This was all several years ago when they first came out. Hopefully they have corrected that by now.

Thanks for your information….it does seem to me that they have lots of mixed reviews on how sharp they are. I just got a 3 pack in the mail that I need to open and then I can check and see what I think. My main concern with them is flight but it seems like all the reviews on them are positive in that area
