Woods carry holsters

Postby Jhg » 05 11, 2023 •  [Post 1]

I have this one but its not exactly quick draw. I think the military guys named it the widowmaker...

The upside to this holster is it can be configured anyway you want. I actually prefer cross draw hip or chest but have not really set this one up to do either. The backpack and drawing a bow figure into the equation.

This holster does zero to keep my 1911 dry in rain....

I just cant get on board with chest rigs. Ive tried. Always use a thumbreak holster on my right hip. Closed bottom so the barrel doesnt get full of dirt or snow when im sitting on the ground, which i spend a lot of time doing.

Which did you choose? One of my criteria was easy on/off so I would always have it on me when the pack is off. Read a few stories of guides leaving sidearm on pack and then bear shows up. Not good.

When going back into kills (I don’t pack on hunts), I use a light weight chest holster a friend of mine made for me. It weighs nothing as really does my Taurus .444 Ultra Light Titanium .44 MAG loaded to the max with Montanas HSM 305 Grain Bear loads. A combination that I would never want to get shot with. If I’m going down, I’m shooting something to try to disrupt the bastards nervous system as I’m drug away to be buried fir tomorrows brunch.

These are in the breach. Good feedback on these.
