Crap! Did I Just Do That?

Postby ElkNut1 » 01 05, 2013 •  [Post 1]

LOL! Imagine this guy was you! Vortex sent this to me & thought I'd share it. It's funny but then it isn't. (grin)

"Vortex VIP Warranty is bulletproof - Literally. We just received a letter from a very satisfied customer. Not only because we replaced his Razor HD Spotting scope after an accidental discharge from a .300 Win Mag sent a round straight through it, but also because it remained functional throughout the rest of his elk hunt. Of course, we hope our customers never experience an issue with their optic, but as this incident demonstrates, things do happen. The point here is, if you’re a Vortex customer, were going to take care of you - before and after the sale. Period."

Wonder what the exit hole looks like? Amazingly good warranty I'd say.

I wonder if he was looking through it when the rifle went off? Scarry.

Imagine looking through that scope when the "accidental discharge" happened. That would put a whole new emphasis to the word "crap"!!!

Good points guys. But, the hunter had his rifle behind the Spotter, he spotted a buck & had an elevated position over the Spotter, he thought? The barrel was lined up on it & the RifleScope was just clearing the Spotter so it was out of his view & BANG! Perfect lung shot on the Spotter. (grin)

Years ago (about 1974) a friend/coworker shot at a coyote using the roof of his 69 Malibu SS for a rest. Another friend was sitting inside the car when the shooter squeezed the trigger. I think the coyote is still laughing, but neither of the two hunters were amused. The bullet opened the car roof like a sardine can. I suspect the friend in the car just needed a new pair of drawers, and a day or two to get the ringing out of his ears, while the car owner had some expensive repairs on the vinyl covered roof. The moral of the story is, know that your gun barrel is below your scope. Flip Filson famously said "what you sees is whats you get". That is not true if you are not careful about the location of your gun barrel when you shoot. :o

It's the 20-60X85 Razor HD not one of the 65 or 50mm that are not out yet.
