Ar 10

Postby wawhitey » 08 23, 2021 •  [Post 1]

Anybody else do the ar10 thing? Just ordered an ar10 .308. Dont know what for, but it should be capable of doing all the things i do. Going to see if my zeiss victory v8 1-8×30 (euro rail model with the recknagel adapter) will work out on the ar. I think it will. After that, i have to consider suppressing it. Never hear of people hunting with ar10s, but for my purposes it seems like a big "why the hell not?" Will also be a great shtf doomsday gun.

In civilian life, I have not. One of my neighbors below me (Dale) yes. He’s murder on steel 3-4 times per week with his AR platform 7.62. Scares the crap out of two of three of my little potlickers and my puss yellow lab :D

Well looking at things, no way my 1-8 zeiss will work on the ar10. So ill probably pull my 1-8 vortex strike eagle with a cantilever moubt off of my .450 bushmaster upper, put it on the ar10, and throw a venom red dot on the bushmaster. Like im playing musical chairs here.

Try living 500 yards from a gravel pit on the side of a paved road on dnr land. I get to hear lots of dipschmidts mag dumping.

Well i brought the badboy home yesterday. This morning i replaced the factory trigger with a geissele sd-e trigger. Now i need to zero the iron sights. Then i can mount my scope. Went with a 1-6×24 viper pst gen 2. Zero the scope, swap out the grip and butt stock, and give the whole shabang a paint job. Other than that, waiting on the atf to clear my form 4 so i can go pick up my suppressor. Cant think of a better wolf gun than an ar10 with a can and a 1-6 scope. And really it will be perfectly capable of doing everything i do with a rifle. Could handle lion, bear, deer, elk... cant wait to get this thing in the wolf woods next fall. Hoping i can pick up my suppressor by september.

Today i dialed in the iron sights on paper, then ding ding ding ding 6" steel at 50, 75, 100, 150. Good enough for the backup iron sights. Then i mounted my scope. Now a breakdown and cleaning, then boresight the sucker, then i can start experimenting with different ammo, figure out what it likes, zero the scope and thats that. Then i just need to give it a paint job, and sit here waiting for the atf to approve me on my suppressor.

A friend of mine just built one. I'll be curious to shoot his. Looks like a fun gun to go banging away on things.

Its intended purpose is to bang away on wolves. But i may take it out bear hunting next year, for one tag anyway, just for the hell of it. Ive got a couple of lever action .308 bear kills under my belt. Its plenty capable.

7.62. A 5.56 is an ar15

Figure an ar in .308 with a 1-6 scope and a can would be the perfect wolf gun, if a little bit on the heavy side.

They work just as well as any 308 for hunting elk.
