Bow choice?

Why do you shoot/like the bow you have? That’s it….just curious.

I have always been a Mathews fan. Then I won my current Mathews at an RMEF banquet. Pretty boring response, sorry!

I prefer a narrow grip wide axle to axle high brace height bow. I am not that much into speed. Accuracy is more important to me. Currently I am shooting a Mathews Halon 32 with a 7 inch brace height. I have a spare PSE bow. Both can shoot but the Mathews is smoother. I like it that the founder of Mathews is a Christian.

It all started with an antelope hunt with my daughter. We saw bedded bull elk, and was ready to go to town and buy an archery set up .
Season had closed.
My buddy Dave had archery elk hunted a couple years. Told him what has happened and we started talking archery. I had a messed up shoulder, however Dave brought his bow over. I shot it, he was impressed with my shooting. Next thing I know my wife is making a deal for Dave's bow( mathews Switchback)
Dave is one of those quiet, unassuming guys that does his research and will do anything. So I knew the bow would be decent.

This is the first year in the last 8 that I didn’t get a new bow. Yes the company came out with a few new bows this year and I was really tempted to get a new one. I just couldn’t buy a new bow that would be a backup to my Mach1. This is the best bow I’ve ever owned. The draw cycle is amazingly smooth, solid back wall, decent speed. I’m drawing 75.4# shooting a 514gr arrow at 289fps. The bow is so light I had to put a back bar on it to shoot it well. But fully loaded it weighs 4.7# which is perfect for carrying it all day. I’m accurate out to 115yds with it. I just can’t see switching it up.

For years I shot and sold Hoyts. About 9 years ago I shot a Elite and feel in love with the draw and wall. This year I shot a Axius Ultra and bought one. Then I had the chance to pick up a Double XL, bought it. They both have the draw and wall that Hoyt used to have. Sold both my E35s, back in the Hoyt camp.

PSE STINGER MAX

This is my first bow (ever), purchased from Cabela's five years ago. I have absolutely no reason to change as I have never released an arrow during a hunt.

Bear Method (2013 model)

I almost pulled the trigger on a Mathews VXR 31.5 earlier this year. I shot a Prime, Hoyt, Elite, and the Mathews. It came down to between the Elite and the Mathews with the Mathews edging out the Elite just ever so slightly in the draw cycle. My biggest issue was the coin to have to drop on the bow. So I'm holding out until next year to upgrade. I will say the Method has a pretty good draw cycle, but the Mathews and Elite were smooth as butter, no humps or bad hills in the cycle to have to grunt through.
