I do not use a spotting scope very often so I have been reluctant to invest in a new one. Last deer season I wished I had. I believe a quality new scope would have made a big difference. I should have spent a lot more time viewing through one. It takes time to check out open country and recheck it. If you don't have to, don't compromise on your optics. Get the good ones. I have been very impressed with the Vortex optics I have. Mediocre ones put you at an immediate disadvantage. Certainly a good tripod is also very valuable. The last thing you want, is one that is not steady or that is difficult to work with.
