There are lots of articles on this all over the web. Wanted to know from the guys here, Whats in your pack?

Assume a day pack leaving from whatever your base camp is on foot. I see alot of people say stick with the basics, you dont need all that other crap. So what are you guys packing?

What do I carry? Lets see. Space blanket, sharp knife or maybe two, knife sharpener, fire starter, lunch or snacks, water, Bible (New Testament), calls, GPS, compass, often maps, powder to monitor wind, whatever I think I will want to communicate, pencil, Sudoku book camera, binoculars (sometimes) other things like game bags depending on where I am going. I will probably edit this post when I think of that wonderful thing I have forgot for now.

Great thread! I ran upstairs (well, not ran) and grabbed my Exo Mountain Gear pack to provide an inventory. Haven't really done anything with it except drain/sanitize the water bladder, take batteries out of things, and removed any chow that would rot since last SEP. In a nutshell, this is what I carry on day hunts from camp (this includes everything including things in/attached to my pack, in my pockets, etc.). Deep breath, here I go:

Tags
Facemask (used on most setups and certainly in areas where the bugs are bad)
TP/wet wipes
Tiny camera
Clip Shot (don't get left out of the shot)
Small spray bottle of peroxide
Flagging ribbon
Two headlamps (one primary with spot beam capability and one with flood light feature)
Calls/tube
Compass
Maps for areas hunted
Trail tacks
GPS
Rangefinder
First Aid/Emergency Kit
Water Bladder
Kill Kit (9X12 drop cloth, two contractor grade garbage sacks, 3 OZ chili powder, OE replaceable blade knife, Elk Track Knife, VIAM Outdoors game bags, 4 20-25' lengths of paracord, SOG bone saw)
Lightweight gloves
Synthetic short sleeve T shirt (put this on once you're heading out of the hole, or, packing meat)
One set of extra batteries for GPS and one for headlamp
Quart zip lock with day chow
Rain gear is rain is a coming
Two way radio (if legal in state hunted)
Small binos
Pistola (.44 MAG) if hunting in brown bear country

Binos on a chest harness, range finder attached to bino harness

Since it was mentioned. I wondered how many of you guys carry a sidearm while archery hunting. I did find there are bears in the Big Hole.
I was considering bringing a .357 revolver. I think I would rather have that than spray.

yes I do, I carry a 40 on my hip, it gets heavy at times but a worthy tradeoff for the piece of mind.

Extra socks in a ziplock (for mid day switch)

Toilet paper and unscented wet wipes
Headlamp (may be wearing it)
1 pair extra socks
Cell phone
Small first-aid kit consisting of: 2 gauze pads, a few band-aids, 3-800mg ibuprofens, a couple benadryl, epi-glue, about 3ft of Leukotape-P wrapped around a lighter, small patch of moleskin, and an ace bandage
Leatherman
Calls (hip belt pocket)
Langefinder (hip belt pocket)
Lens cloth
Red bandana
License
Map / gps
Compass
Extra release
Kill kit; 4 bags, 2 garbage bags, 4 Zip ties, Piranta, fixed blade Buck and small steel, space blanket, 50ft of para-cord, orange flag tape
Lunch, snacks
Survival kit consisting of: lighter, magnesium fire starter, vaseline cotton balls, space blanket, hard candy, mini flashlight, small pocket knife, 25ft of para-cord
Rain coat (I wear gaiters all day everyday hunting)
I also attach a length of blaze orange cord to a clip on the inside of my pack so that I can pull it out and drape it over the top in case I take my pack off for a stalk or something so that I can easily find it again. Learned that the hard way
