Need info on Selkirk Tent from Wall Tent Shop

Postby husky390 » 01 11, 2017 •  [Post 1]

I'm either going to have a stove jack sewn into my Kodiak Canvas tent or buy a 12'x14' wall tent. While window shopping, I stumbled on the Selkirk tent by Wall Tent Shop and have a few questions.

Is anyone here using one?
What are the benefits of it over a wall tent, if any?
How much room does it take when packed down?
How big are the poles?
Pro's/Con's
Is the floor sewn in or loose?

Also, does the Wall Tent Shop offer wall tents with Traditional Poles? I haven't been able to find that option on their website.

I have used the 10x10 Selkirk spike tent and own a 16x20 wall tent. The Selkirk is a great tent fairly easy to set up it takes me about 20 - 30 min now that I have done it a couple times. It has a sewn in floor. I would recommend a fly if you plan on having a stove just as added protection from sparks. Works great for short trips when I don't need all the space my 16x20 provides, but if you expect heavy snow make sure you clean off the roof regularly it wont take near as much snow as a wall tent with a complete internal frame. I also wouldn't recommend leaving it set up at camp when you wont be back by night fall for the same reasons.

Thank you for the info. I too have a 16x20 wall tent which I love staying in but hate tearing down. I think I'll stick with my plan to mod my Kodiak or get a smaller wall tent.
