Baseball Bat+wimpy Primos bugle = Awesome! (with Pictures)

Postby Trumkin the Dwarf » 08 29, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Hey guys! I decided to show ya'll how I made my old primos pack bugle into a much better all around call with some spare change and an hour of work.

So a couple years ago, I got tired of the collapsible Primos bugle that wouldn't/couldn't get big and mean in sound. Don't get me wrong, the blue reed on Primos bugles makes absolutely fabulous locator bugles (for me anyways), but I needed something that could sound big. I tried mouth reeds through the tube, and still couldn't get anywhere. After some thought I decided I needed a bigger resonance chamber, with thicker/harder plastic. A quick trip to the local Target yielded a super duper special whiffle ball bat, and 5 minutes of hack saw work turned THAT into a big bugle shaped tube!

I drilled a couple holes in it with a red hot nail(to attach a paracord sling). Then added the camo sleeve from the old primos bugle. Finally, I drilled a smaller hole in the mouth insert from the old bugle, and tied the insert to the sling with a 6 inch chunk of cord. Jam the insert into the smaller hole, and hey presto! A bugle!

This lets me rip the insert out and get real raspy and growly on a mouth reed without worrying about losing it. So, I get the ease of locator bugles on the Primos insert and a 2 second conversion to a big bad cow thief! Final product looks like this...

Cheers!
