onXmaps Chip for GPS Quesiton

Postby Kessler10 » 05 12, 2016 •  [Post 1]

I have a Oregon 550T. I am wanting to purchase the chip/SD card for Colorado. How does the installation work? Can you put the chip directly into the GPS device or have to put it in your computer and download it that way? this is my first nice GPS as i have alwasy hunted land I am very familiar with until this upcoming season.

Also doe this chip give you that awesome satellite imagery (like google earth) with trails marked in red and white overlayed on the satellite imagery? Similar to what I see with my onXmaps APP I have on my iphone? i love the view I have in that app that is basically google earth with the pack trails overlayed right on top. Hoping that is the same type of view I could get if I purchase that chip/sd card and put it on my handheld Oregon 550t. thanks for the feedback!

Yes it is a chip that goes in the gps. If you have a USB cord and a sd reader u can download the baseman program and use it on your computer. Then you can transfer all your way points back and forth. If you don't have the SD reader you can install the chip in the gps and use the USB cord for you gps. As far as the satellite images mine doesn't have that option but its 3 years old. The app is fairly new so maybe the new chips have it. Mine is a topo map with land owner ship and public land. It shows major creeks, ponds, lakes, road and trails.

It's just a micro sd card that you put in the slot. No sat imagery though. At least not on the Montana 650T.
