Elk Pack Question

I'm going to need a pack for my 2016 elk hunt. Looking for one to use as a combo daypack and meatpack. I have an opportunity to buy a mildly used Tenzing 4000 ($220) or a Tenzing 5000 ($250). Does anyone have any experience with a Tenzing pack as far as using to pack out quarters/meat, and would you recommend it at this price?

If you can afford it the outdoorsman pack is the way to go! And usually get them cheaper this time of year! I helped my buddy pack his buck out with it and it was incredible. He was using tenzing and his load was shifting like crazy. I personally never liked them or badlands for that reason. Hope that helps.

I have no personal knowledge of the Tenzing packs sir (haven't tried one out) but if you can acquire an all in one pack for those prices, looks like a solid deal to me! Is lean towards the larger model.

I'm with Phantom... I don't know elkduds about Tenzing packs but those prices are pretty darn good for any quality backpack.

One thing to keep in mind... on the first trip out you can pick and choose what you want to pack. There are two ways of thinking. Either grab and hind quarter and get it over with. Or since you have a better pack at camp go with a front quarter and save the big stuff for the heavy duty pack.

I know there are better packing packs than my Badlands 2200 but I can comfortably pack an unskinned unboned hind with it and have many times. A front would be a piece of cake along with backstraps if I wanted to take those too. The reason I stick with it is because I don't think there is a better day pack for every day hunting. I love it. I love their no bones warranty too. As a matter of fact the one have now was free after I pounded the living hell out of the last one for about 12 years.

Both those are good packs from all the reviews I've read when I was researching packs before I bought one but haven't tried them. Like Indian summer said the badlands 2200 is great all around. I helped a few friends pack out elk with mine in September and loaded it with one full hind quarter and front shoulder not boned out and hiked a mile out with it had to stay hunched over course I'd loos balance but it held up and was comfortable...next morning we hauled another one out this time I token a front shoulder and the back strap and tender lions and it was even better I could walk without being hunched over without being boned out eather and you can't beat the warranty!

I don't care what kind of pack you have and how much it cost. You load an unboned hind quarter and shoulder you are going to walk hunched over.
