leather holster break in

Postby wawhitey » 11 10, 2015 •  [Post 1]

My hip holster for my .460 just arrived, and it fits but it is SNUG!!! Any suggestions on how i can break it in, soften it up a bit?? Pretty hard to pull the gun out of it.

I have heard neatsfoot oil works well for softening leather, just rub it in and keep working the holster. That or do a LOT of shooting, holstering your gun between every shot?

Wrap a plastic shopping bag around the gun, stuff it in the holster and leave it overnight. That was the advice a gun buddy gave me. I got rid of the gun before I gave it a try. YRMV.

I would caution oiling too much as it may misshapen the holster. The shopping bag trick helps, but the best is to practice drawing / holstering with an UNLOADED weapon over and over again.
