What's in yours? I carry 5 Alaskan Game bags, two large black plastic sacks, two pairs of lightweight medical rubber gloves, a single one gallon zip lock bag, 100-125' of of paracord, one fixed blade knife (Gerber) and one replaceable razor knife (this year is was a Havalong Piranta, next year it'll be the Outdoor Edge Razor), one container of chili powder, one BH sharpener (Smiths) used to touch up fix blade knife, and a bone saw to take the skull cap off (WY Saw).

Rory have you actually held any of the Outdoor Edge products in your hands? That stuff is probably the cheapest made on the market. Terrible.

My kill kit includes T.A.G. Bags (6), 50 feet of paracord, two fixed blade Buck knives and a Havalon Piranta (I never stop to sharpen when working on an elk) a 5 Hour Energy...... and a Clip-Shot.

Weighs nothing other than those Buck knives and takes up very little space. The TAG Bags are the key... synthetic so very lightweight and zero bulk.

Joe, I haven't held one of the Outdoor Edge Razors yet but I know the blades are thicker than the Piranta. I had those Piranta blades snapping like popcorn on my elk this year. The Havalon worked fine for some of the finish work but man they don't like thick elk hide or any right/left stress on them. I'll still carry my fixed blade Gerber but will try the Outdoor Edge and see if its any stronger.. besides, I already ordered one, LOL.

I have a knife. All i do is gut the deer and drag it home, its much simpler then what you guys do . I dont wear gloves though, I'd have to wear shoulder gloves and they are too bulky and I cant feel what I'm doing.

An orange G-10 52100 steel Western Hunter Elktrack Knife made by me.
2 30ft. pieces of 5mm cord, 4 carabiners, a small climbing pulley, 10-15 feet of paracord, 4/5 game bags, Kuiu extra large rolltop bag, DMT red diamond plate folding steel, and a small lightweight hatchet. I've found a thousand uses for a hatchet while dealing with game over the years from antlers to limbs to clearing the kill sight to make room.
After I get the beast apart I carry out the backstraps and tenderloins in the Kuiu bag in my pack along with my gear.
If I won't be getting back quickly that day I have to hang it in a tree as I live and hunt in real bear country. That's when I use the 5mm cord and pulley to get it all in a tree. Haven't lost any meat to a bear yet.
It helps to be proficient with prussik knots and pulleys to know how to haul heavy things up in to a tree by yourself.

The thickness of the blades on Outdoor Edge is somewhere between a Piranta... and everything else. The one thing that they obviously do a good job of is marketing. It worked on you right? lol


Redtop.... how was your season? I guess gun season is still in full swing and hasn't even started yet to the south of you. The guys I know that hunt one drainage south of where I was near your place last year are doing pretty good this year.

5 game bags, (2) knives - one more for gutting/skinning and a filet knife, Wyoming Saw, hatchet, and NRS straps (instead of paracord).

I like reading what the others bring as me and my buddy are still learning. With my Buddy's elk this year I felt like we had everything we needed with above list.

There are two different thickness blades for the Piranta- make sure you have the heavier ones and are letting the blade do the work - no twisting or prying. I also carry a leatherman squirt - lightweight and the pliers make changing the blades a snap. (Just checked, 60A blades are thicker and stronger than 60XT)

My kill kit fits into a kifaru pull out: Set of Tag BOMB bags, a kifaru meat Baggie, 2 contractor bags, Piranta Bolt with 3 extra blades, flagging tape, 50' paracord, 2 sets gloves.

Joe, Aside from having too much cabinetry work to do and it being a warmer than usual fall my season was good. Shot a nice buck and a nice bull. Had to buy a new bigger freezer. That's a sign of a good season, right?

The outdoor edge razor lite is awesome. Wont even touch my havalon anymore. No leatherman needed to change blades on the outdoor edge knife. Easy and safe. Youll never go back

Never heard of that one. I bought a Kodi Pack once. Once I saw how really thin the blades were I sold it on eBay before I even used it.

Caribou Game Bag set (6 bags total) vacuum sealed with two contractor game bags. 550 para cord. Tape and license. Havalon knife with spare blades. If I remember to grab it, bring a camera.
Not much to mine, although I did add an extra item this year. An SOL blanket to wrap the meat in. If temperatures are getting high, you can place the meat inside to hold the cool over night temps in. Also can be used to shield off the sun at certain times of the day if you worry about moving the meat around. We even used it to haul the meat to town. Easy and cheap cooler transportation.

I only carry one knife but can tune it up on a fine diamond stone when needed. Usually have to touch it up once while quartering an elk. I plan to switch to some lighter weight synthetic game bags next season. I usually bring my Wyoming saw back on the second trip to saw off the antlers so no need to pack all the time.

Used the Outdoor Edge Razor this year and loved it, feels much more solid them the Havelon from blade to handle. Only issue I had was removing the blade after debone, had to wash all the crap out of the locking mech to get it to release the blade to put a new one in but it held its edge with the one blade. The Outdoor Edge case is bulky, I put mine in the havalon case

Great thing about TAG bags is they are super durable, breathe very well and come out almost brand new after a washing machine cycle, just air dry them. They weigh nothing.

Youtube has video of using 3 links of chain and para cord to hang meat. Instead of carrying a pulley. Cheap, lite weight, and next to nothing as for taking up space in backpack. I can not find video. sorry.

I really like the chain link pulley system. Hanging elk quarters especially higher up is never easy. If you're alone it is really hard. With that it looks like it would be a breeze even alone. So simple too.
