Traditional bows?

Just wondering how many people shoot traditional bows...Are they something you do just for fun or are they a primary weapon in your collection... Would like to hear how many people made the switch to a traditional bow from compound...What kind of prey do you go after with your stick and string...

I have a bear longbow I shoot for fun and for small game. I do not use it for big game, but like using it for anything from squirrel to grouse. Still trying to get a duck or goose with it.. but I am limited on waterfowl hunting and have not sealed the deal yet.
I started with a recurve, then switched to hunting with a compound, then now, hunt big game with the compound and small with the trad gear. I also like bowfishing with trad gear.

I have about 1 hour left on my latest osage/bamboo reflex deflex build. Definitely not my primary weapon for big game but I'd like to get good enough to start using it for deer.

I hunted with compounds for years then decided to go trad, I hunted elk mostly & an occasional mule deer but not too seriously. I took animals all 4 years with a longbow then decided I wanted to go back to compounds for a change. For 2016 I'm seriously considering to going back to the longbow once again just for the change! (grin) Mine is 55# at 27-1/2" draw. This weight has served me well. I also used to do a lot of 3d shoots so there was a lot of recreation there too!

I have a beautiful recurve made by zipper bows.
Have not made time to shoot often enough to hunt big game with it.
Heck I'm still missing with my compound.
The recurve is definitely a blast to shoot and nice to look at compared to a compound

I have a Herters recurve with 45# draw that I bought when I was 13.
I was hoping to do some shooting with it this year and maybe even hunt with it,.. just a dream, I still need to replace the string

I'd love to, just can't justify passing any more shot opportunities at this point. I did have a friend give me a copy of The Bowyers Bible and help me make one. It was kind of a hybrid longbow/recurve mix out of hickory with bamboo backing. Vey fun process and think most guys would get a kick out doing it. The Bowyers Bibles are very educational and give lots of options as to how hard you want to make the process. I'm by no means handy with wood and made it through with some minimal help from my body.

They are a ton of fun to build. Especially if you have a great mentor and a bunch of fun guys to hang out with. We usually have 3 or 4 bows in progress at once.

I love running rabbits with my beagles but I couldn't care less if I actually shoot the rabbits. That makes for the perfect opportunity. The Pa bunny season opens next weekend. This past week I ran the dogs a couple days right behind the house. There are lots of rabbits this year. Several of them circled right to me. I stand still and they don't even see me. Some stopped only 5 or 6 feet away.

I'm going to give it a try this year. Bunnies with bows sounds like lots of fun. Even if I miss I get to see the look in their eyes. Then.... wait for the dogs to bring them back around. If I kill a few it'll be way more of an accomplishment than rolling them with the shotgun. I can hardly wait.

I shot compounds for 30 years then my son bought a recurve this past February so I bought one to shoot with him and fell in love with traditional. Started with a 60# Bear Grizzly, then a friend built me a 45# longbow and gave it to me and that's when I found out I really like a longbow. Bought a used 59# Dan Quillian longbow in July and by the end of the month decided I was going all trad this year. Decided to take the DQ LB on our elk hunt in September with the Bear Grizzly as a backup. Never got a shot on an elk but had a blast anyway. Traditional will be my weapon of choice for everything this year (Elk, Deer and Hogs)

I am trying my hardest to keep myself from dropping the coin on a Hoyt Buffalo at my local archery shop.

I have always shot traditional, just never felt natural with a wheel bow. I've hunted small game, fish, deer, turkey, and elk. Getting ready to start an Osage, maple, bamboo tri lam in a R/D design.

Its nice to know that I am not the only one thinking about making the full switch from compound to traditional... I started shooting a Samick sage that I picked up at a pawn shop for $40. Been messing around in the river shooting 3DS enjoying snap shooting at trees and whatever else with my buddies and caught the traditional bow bug!!!!!!Now I bought a Hoyt Buffalo and let me tell you that thing is amazing....I am planing hunting next year with it if I get more proficient .My samick sage is my bow fishing rig now since the Buffalo goes everywhere with me....

What's the length and draw weight on your Buffalo? Nice looking bow but not cheap. I'd like to own a Black Widow. Obviously not cheap either.

Indian summer I have 2 sets of limbs for my buffalo.. I have a 45# set which is a 60"length and a 50# which measure out at 62inch...I love shooting the 45# limbs which draw out to about 48#s .... It sure is a sweet heart to shoot let me tell you... Was thinking about getting a new compound but this bow might get the start for me next year and the compound will have to sit the bench....
