insect repelants, DEET or Permethrin?

Postby RichM » 07 26, 2015 •  [Post 1]

Came across some posts and articles about how bad ticks are in the northeast part of the US and West Nile disease.

What do you do when out in the woods in the late summer/autumn?

I've been thinking about using the permethrin this season.

Permethrin works very well for ticks. Apply it to your clothing NOT your skin. It dries scent free and will supposedly last through numerous washings. It really works and you may never know how well. My son had over 50 ticks and I had none while hunting together (spring, in Wi.)
Deet.... is best for skeeters, is smelly and probably works for ticks to some degree.

This. Follow the directions. Spray your clothes and let dry.

I dont like chemicals when possible. I wear long sleeve shirts I kill the little trouble makers with my right or left hand  ;) earlier this spring on one trip the little buggers were bad, I sprayed my non-hunting shirt and pants
We may not have much of a problem this year in upper US Rockies. We just got back from a week in Canada and a week at scout camp in Idaho
I maybe killed 40 mosquitoes in 13 days, about 1/2 because they were trapped in the tent

I live in tick heavy Northeast, I spray clothes with permethrin once a year and wash 10 times or so, works great, never get ticks
