Are you satisfied with your present elk killer or are you in the market for a new or different projectile slinger!! (grin) I personally am staying with the Energy Elite at least another year, it's a good shooter!

My Mathews DXT still works too well to justify a new one, but would look at Hoyt Carbon Turbo if money was no issue!

i would shoot the new mathews for the chit and grins..then i would give the Hoyt Carbon 34 a long hard look. the numbers are just about perfect..

maybe shoot a Prime.

Im planning on heading to idaho to try out an e35. Seems lke yhere are very few bows made now with generous axle to axle and brace heights. Like bow manufacturers are so caught up in a fps race they wont make anything else.

Cliff mentioned in another post that Elite has a 33" coming out, you might want to try that one out as well while you're at it? These bows have a heck of a non jumpy wall, very nice!

I think every year!!!

I've shot the new Hoyt's and liked them. I like the feel of the Z cam. The Nitrum is nice but it isn't as nice as the carbon bows. They just have that feel to them. The stiffness of the carbon riser really is a nice platform. I like the ZT carbon 34.

Going to shoot the new Bowtech and the new Mathews as well.

It will be hard to give up my Element. I really like this bow. If I get a new one it will likely be another carbon Hoyt. Not sure I'll ever go back to an aluminum riser again. Will probably wait a year and let them iron out any issues with the new flexible roller guard. I'm always reluctant to buy new technology the first year.

I keep shooting my switchback xt from 2005 and it continues to be accurate and a proven killer, hard to justify the money when the one I have continues to work...but I am going to shoot one of the new mathews no cam bows and see what happens.

How long do you guys usually keep your bows? I was shooting a Hoyt Xtec for the past 10 years. The only way i am keeping one that long again is if it is a stick bow. Bumped it up to a Vector 32. It makes shooting fun again.

Yes, change is good in using the new & improved bows around! I've used a bow close to 10 years as well but these days it seems every 3 years or so I get a different one.

No elk yet with my Bowtech Insanity, just a nice Muley doe. I shoot it pretty well so can't see dropping more coin on another yet. I'm a short draw lefty too, so that makes it a little harder to shoot stuff at the dealers.

Love my current setup. 2009 Hoyt Alphamax 35...kills as good as any brand new bow...I do however like to upgrade accessories. I am looking at a Tight Spot quiver and a Montana Black Gold Ascent Ambush sight...and I am wondering if they are worth the money. BH374

I've been wanting to make the move to an Elite Energy 35, but my Z7xtreme still hunts good. And besides, there's a bunch of other things that I "need" right now like a spotting scope, tripod, tent, pack, and everything else for western hunting.. Making the move out west is looking expensive..

there is no way:

this weekend i hunted in the rain. big torrential stuff. i even had one pants off, boots/socks off..stream crossing. brrr..

climbing a steep muddy hillside, i slipped (and almost started a mudslide). i hit my bow into the mud. like an ice-axe. my bowsight was funny. it pressed into the earth like a big cookie cutter. it came out completely plugged with mud. i pushed out the "cookie" of mud..went downhill and dunked the sight into a clear stream. (plus the limb pockets)

kept hunting.

got home and cleaned my bow, waxed strings..etc. i had to reset my rest cord. i obernauf coated my wrist sling which i felt was a stroke of genius on my part

took the bow out, and plopped three arrows into the same .5" circle..almost had my first robin hood. at around 25 yards. i mean COLDSHOTS!! first three arrows! i'm gonna do my damndest to keep this bow for a long time.

I'm ready for a new bow. In fact, I think I'm going to change everything this year. I've been shooting a PSE Brute since 09 ( I think). I've tried various sights, rests and quivers and found most of the pros and cons as they relate to my hunting style. The main things with the Brute are that it has quite a bit of hand shock / vibration and it's slow - seems to be getting slower too as it ages. At 71# with a 410 gr arrow (w/head) I'm shooting just under 260 fps. I know speed isn't everything but most of my shot opportunities on muleys are 50-60 yds and I sure would like a little flatter arc out there. Misjudging distance by just 2-3 yds at those distances can/has caused me issues. The accuracy is there but there's a little too much rainbow for my liking...

I have no idea where to start with new bows. The shops are too biased to give an honest opinion. Whatever they sell is " the best"...

I'm open to suggestions. Would like to shoot a 435gr arrow at 290 fps+ with a 27 1/4" DL . But don't want to give up too much " forgiveness" in the bow...

You won't get alot of forgiveness trying to get those numbers. That is 360+ IBO. Full Throttle or MR 5. May have to go 80lbs as well.

Well i decided not to get an elite for my first compound. After just buying a house and looking at all the expenses that go along with it (decided to start fresh with all new furniture etc) i bought a pse surge to save money for now. Its not a large investment so i wont feel bad about upgrading in a year or so after im all settled into the new place. Going to put a target in my barn so i can shoot on bad weather days too. Already put in for the whole september elk season off work. Need to get shooting now.

Like a couple on here, I am shooting a Swithchback xt. Have not shot a bow the made me want to change. However this is the year I think and will be shooting some bows soon to decide what I like best. Thinking hoyt or maybe prime but well see.

To the Elite guys here. Are you finding the longer axle to axle to be more forgiving as advertised? What has been your longest shot on Elk? What about pronghorn in the prairie?

I currently own a 2004 Mathews Outback and I think it is time to upgrade. I think I will keep the Outback for many years. I loved it in my tree stand. However, I am looking for something a little more comfortable for the longer ranges the prairies offer me. I have always been dead on to 40 with the Outback. Never had to shoot farther then 30 in a hunting situation. After 40 my groups would get a little loose. I am looking into those longer axles for more control on those longer shots.

Right now my comfort zone with the Outback is 40 and under. More shooting at longer distances here after it is looked at and restrung could remedy that.

I plan to shoot the 32, 35, and Synergy bows side by side but looking for user reviews, from real hunters, that may tell me something I won't get from flinging a few arrows at an indoor range with either bow. I just can't return to Mathews. Something about their newer line I just can't get on board with.

my bow history (after i got serious about bowhunting).
Mathews Switchback XT. 31ATA?
Mathews Z7 30"ATA.

then i talked to my friend in Tuscon about longer ATA. he shoots a rigged up target bow at 36"ATA and he only shoot HUGE couse deer. absolute best hunter that i know, considering he only hunts COUSE deer. and the occasional javalina. if he unleashed himself on other animals..whoa. this guy is a long distance trail runner, and only hunt solo because he hasnt met a person that can hike and suffer like he does. he wont even invite my fat ass.

so i secretly started to pine away for a longer ATA bow. i got it down to two. the Hoyt Carbon 34 and the Elite Energy 35. my wife looked a the price tags and i walked away with the Energy. my tuscon friend sells HOYT.

i admit, it took some time getting used to it. it felt heavy. i knocked bow parts on tree limbs as i hiked thru the thickest stuff. but in time i adjusted.

the TRUTH!! i have never been so accurate in my shooting life. i got a slider sight that lets me put an actual pin on the target at 100 yards. and you know what? my groups are a honest 8". i have a weird thing. i only shoot one arrow at time at 100. i like to calmly walk down range, get my arrow, walk back. it lets me calm myself for the long shot. i have shot much smaller groups. i made a mistake and trusted my bowshop to set my 1st axis on my sight. i found myself always having to push the top cam left to level my sight...i doubled checked it, and had to fix everything. 1-3 axises. now when i put my bow up, the bubble is already pretty level. i'd be surprised if i am not shooting EVEN BETTER! my favorite hunting distance is 60 yards. i am just mentally confident at that range. i'm far enough that the animal would mostly not hear me and my bow, and my chattering teeth, and me kicking rocks..and my bow can shoot it. my groups when i shoot a lot are fairly consitent all the way out to 60.

i'm not a bow pro or anything. i dont know why longer ATA is more forgiving. i'm not sure that it is. what i think it does for me is "leverage". being longer, it takes more energy for me to level my bow. i think of it like backing up a trailer. a big car trailer is easy to back up..that tiny 5' utility trailer is a jack-knifing nightmare. it is so twitchy and tiny inputs make big outputs.

i do know that everyone in AZ shoots a long bow. i see them out there all the time. i'll be there in a few weeks!!! me and my Energy 35.

the deer i took this year was at 62 yards. i plugged it and it ran 30 yards and toppled over. confidence is EVERYTHING.

oh, my Z7 sucked. i hated that bow.

oh. i dont understand the argument that short bows work best in tree-stands and ground blinds.

really?!!! i've hunted hogs out of a tree 6 times, and i live in a ground blind during spring turkey. i have never hit a bow on anything. i hunt turkey with a friend using a Drenalin LD. i think his ATA is 39"!
i know my shotgun is longer.

Well, I shot EVERYTHING and ended up with a Nitrum 34. I'm pumped! Hopefully I'll be able to test it out on a lion in the next month or so. If anybody wants to hear about a specific bow I've probably shot it

My hunting partner is an engineer, his company is starting to make a bow unlike anything I have seen. I am hoping to shoot it tomorrow morning, it is designed for the backcountry hunter, much smaller that the Helium by Mathews and I believe that it is equally as fast. I will post up some pics when I know for sure that they have all patents in place!!!

Currently I shoot a Mathews MR6 71lb draw and love it, but what if a guy had a bow small enough to fit in his backpack that punched hard enough to take down an elk? Now that would be something........

That's probably the best bow I ever owned. I sold mine last year and got the Bowtech RPM 360. It's pretty good too, but I think the CPXL held steadier for me.
With that said, I will stick with the 360. Momma's getting tired of me buying new stuff ever year

Me and dads new hoyt carbon spyder turbo zt models. Dads is harvest brown camo limbs. mines realtree xtra camo. Both have ultra rest hdx, cbe sights,tightspot quivers,carbon blade stabilizers. Ulmer edge broadheads.

I would like a new bow but my 2012 PSE Stinger Still does its job just fine, I will be after a new string this year and maybe a cable. Plus I'm not sure what bow I should go for if I did get a new one, something lighter that's for sure.

I am a bow slut.. I admit it... so yes, I will probably be getting a new bow this year.

I have had a Martin, multiple PSE's and Mathews and a Bowtech.... The bow I have kills, but...... as a women has a shoe closet, I have bow hooks, and still have every all of them except for one.

The way I see it is I don't drink, smoke and really don't spend money on anything else.

A company came out with a no-riser bow a couple years ago. It was like 24-28 axle to axle. Seems like the company name was along the lines of Victory but I can't seem to find it. It was like shooting a 60# slingshot.

Check out the new bows at GearHeadArchery on Facebook, this sweet little bow is shooting around 310fps, fits in a small backpack and is unlike anything else on the market. Backcountry guys are gonna love it, this bow shoots great and it is extremely lightweight!! The official product/website unveiling isn't until early April. But you guys will want to check it out

Just picked up a 2014 Prime Alloy with new cams. Put a new Hogg It sight with a 7 pin QAD drop away rest and a Q5 quiver. My son is setting it up for me and I'm going to see him next weekend to shoot it and pick it up. The whole set up will end up costing about $600 under retail so I like that!!!

I shot a lot of bows before settling on this one including the Prime Rival which I didn't care for as much. Makes a difference to shoot that many bows because it gives you more confidence that you picked the best one for you.

Anyway, can't wait to take my bow to the elk woods this fall!!!

Well I wasn't going to get a new bow this year, but a good friend of mine built me a 45# longbow and gave it to me. I started messing around with it then my son came home with a recurve he bought and the next thing you know I had a new Bear Grizzly 60# recurve. I ordered some arrows, did some bare shaft tuning and got it shooting great. Fletched 6 arrows and have been shooting it daily for the past week. I will still be making my September elk hunt with my Mathews but I think I will hunt our deer season with the recurve and longbow. If all goes well I may be packing the recurve to Co in 2016......
