my bow set up question.

hey guys im new to the forum. been lurking for a while now and decided to jump aboard. ive been wanting to wanting to go on an elk hunt for the past 15 years and this fall i am finially able to do so. ive been talking to a buddy of mine about my achery setup. he tells me why change with whats working right now, and all that matters is shot placement. to a point i agree but i want to get somewhat maximum effectiveness with speed, ke, penetration and momentum. ive read just about everyone suggests 400-450 minimum grain arrow. with that said here is what i got.

Hoyt Katera 60# (maxed out 62#) , 28" draw with z3 cam and 1/2, arrows are carbon express maxima hunter 350 26" ( aprox 370 grains with 100grain broad head).

what i was thinking was getting 70# limbs, and changing to 125 grain broadhead at least. but was also looking at the easton axis camo arrows. to get a little more gpi to make a little heavier arrow to get into the 400-450 grain range. wondering what yalls thoughts were. thank you in advance

My .02, I'd lean towards heavier. You can kill an elk with what you've got, but they are very big tough animals and you'll want a little more penetration and umph.

I'd leave the limbs alone if you are comfortable with that and use around a 450gr arrow with them.

Oh hell just buy a new bow . set it up for elk because after you go once you'll keep coming back and wonder why you didn't go sooner. I lost 13 years of elk hunting chasing women and drinking beer, I had fun doing that but should have added elk hunting in the mix way sooner.

I'd shoot the Axis arrows, with a 125 grain head, and leave my bow setup alone. Just my opinion, good luck no matter what you do, and welcome to the forum

If you go to a 330 spine arrow with heavier head and possibly heavier insert you will get better FOC and heavier arrow. You don't need new limbs if $ is a concern.

I would Love to buy a new bow right now but thats not going to happen. maybe next year. I too spent a few years putting hunting on the back burner to chasing women and drinking beer. i wish i would have spent more time going on my "dream hunts" rather than looking down the neck of a brown bottle and chasing women around. which neither one of them had good turn outs, and always seemed to have gotten in trouble one way or another. but i did have a lot of fun.
