Well I Own A Hecs Suit!

Rockie Jacobsen had a Hecs Suit sent to me, that was very cool of him! Still not real sure of its usability yet but what the Hec it's worth a try. (grin) It appears that some serious thought went into its design to contain human energy loss. I'll give it a shot this year & see what I think?

They are like pajamas. Very comfy. Stay out of the cockleburrs thistle and the begger's lice, though.

There's no doubt that the suit does what its meant to do, which is to reduce the human electromagnetic signature's detectability. I just don't know how much of an effect it has on animals. Hopefully it works for you.

I hate to sound like a jerk, but these are a huge gimmick!!!! There is absolutely ZERO scientific evidence that any ungulate detects electromagnetic signals from humans or any other predator. Previously I went through the HECS website where they cite journal articles on the ability of animals to detect electromagnetic signals. I looked up the papers and read them (one of the benefits of working for a university; these papers are not usually free to read).

Most (if not all) of the cited studies that showed animals using and responding to electromagnetic stimuli were in elasmobranchs--sharks, rays, skates. It is pretty well known that these animals use electromagnetic fields to navigate and detect prey. And a lot of other marine and aquatic organisms have evolved this capability (sea turtles, catfish, salamanders, crawdad and other crustaceans). Why? Because salt water is a great conductor of electricity. Air, however, is not. Except for animals that navigate using the earth's electromagnetic field, I'm unaware of any non-marine or non-aquatic animals that use electromagnetic fields in any relevant way. The one study they cite regarding ungulates shows that deer and cattle alter their orientation when grazing under power lines. Repeat: under power lines. Other studies have argued that grazing ungulates seem to orient in a North-south orientation while grazing, and it seems being under power lines disrupts that. However a more recent review (which is of course not available on HECS website) used satellite imagery to examine ungulate body position and found no significant trends.

I hate the gimmicks that come and go in hunting gear. But I hate misuse and misrepresentation of science more. It's offensive. If someone gave me a HECS suit, I'm not sure I'd even waste my time doing experiments to test it's utility. I generally spend my time testing hypotheses that previous scientific inquiry suggests will be lucrative. HECS is bad science. HECS is a joke.

Hey Paul. No foolin. Put the suit on and see how long it takes for your dog to notice you are around. Do a little experimenting with the dog. That should be a way to find out if the suit is any good. Try experimenting indoors and outdoors. If you try that kind of experiment let us know if you can see a difference in how close you can get to the dog without its being aware of your presence.
In the meantine WW and I will wait in our tree stand.

P.S. I was not aware of what Freebird134 just wrote when I came up with this suggestion. That said, I am still curious what the dog has to say.

I don't know about the energy loss thing,but it sure breaks up the human outline!!!
So.... ahhh..... is it supposed to contain the human energy under the unit that an elk can sense??? Or help the wearer conserve energy.? If it's the later, I think I'll stick to slamming a couple red bulls and a 5 hour energy,you will run faster than any elk out there,LOL.

Well I was flipping thru the channels and saw Hunting with HECS, I have been feet from deer and elk and they didn't seem to feel any vibe.
Did you use the suit? HECS, Ozonics, game cams that send pictures to you cell phone.
Wow it is all out there isn't it.

I've wore the shirt because I liked the feel of it but not the pants to date. Honestly, I think it's just a gimmick, but it was free! (grin) Just being honest here!
