Creaking Noise on bow

Postby Deafirishman » 08 25, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Did some more shooting last night and noticed a creaking noise as I drew my bow back ? The limbs and cams look fine to me. After doing a little research , it's seems to be pointing at lubricating the bearings ?? Anyone else have an issue like this before ? Not something I want happening 8 days before I leave for the elk woods....  Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If at all possible, don't use oil. Oil attracts dirt which is hard on moving parts. Dry silicon powder or graphite powder works well. Most creaks come from where the limb enters the riser. Mole skin in this area works great but you need a press.

I certainly wouldn't want this problem just before the adventure begins. good luck, I hope you figure it out. maybe take it to an archery shop and have them check it out.

What bow? bearings are sealed so lube wont help there, many causes for this problem and the bearings are not usually the cause!

Hoyt Charger...I was going to bring it into the shop today so I decided to draw back on the bow this morning one more time before brining it in and it didn't creak at all. My hunting partner made a comment about the moisture in the air yesterday. I thought he was just kidding around. It was extremely humid here yesterday while I was shooting. Not sure if that would cause it to do that. Gonna shoot again tonight and see if the problem still persists. No humidity today so we shall see....

The washers that the split cable hang on are notorious noise makers, as well as cable slides. Clean the cable rod and slide with alcohol and do not lubricate, if it is in the cable washers they need to be removed and cleaned, which of course a press is needed, hopefully it took care of itself!

After shooting tonight in no humidity, the creaking noise disappeared and seemed to work itself out. Hope it stays that way :D

I think that is your problem. Had the exact thing happen to me if it happens in the elk woods you can use cooking oil. It has no odor or one of the things listed in other post here.

if it returns I would check the rockers. a little lithium grease between the rocker and the limb should take care of it. would also put a dab at the limb ends and the axles while it was apart.

Found the source of the creaking noise...the roller cable guard creaks if there is any moisture in the air. At least I now know where the noise comes from. It has been addressed and I am now ready to go into the elk woods !! :D Thanks for everyone's input. I appreciate it very much. Best of luck to all you Elknuts !!
