spotting scope tripod

Anyone have a suggestion for a compact lightweight tripod to use with a spotting scope? Looking for something that would be backpack capable. Everything that I have used that works for backpacking has junk for a head and is really a struggle to lock in a position that holds game in the center of the viewfinder. thanks

As soon as the Summit SS-P (pan-head) becomes available at the end of the month I'd seriously consider it at 2lb. It extends to 54=1/2" & compacts to 14" -- I have been playing with mine for sometime now & it's a very nice lightweight packable tripod even for the larger 85mm models!

I just got a slik 624. It's carbon fiber. Super burly. My scope doesn't even vibrate any more. I got the vanguard ph111 pan head. It's ridiculous. I can get the perfect tension and push the scope around with my face.

Gitzo tripods are strong, sturdy and lite but they aren't the cheapest...

I did one of the cheap carbon fiber asian spin offs from ebay about ten years ago. Pretty fluid head for $100 still going strong and taken alot of abuse.

I picked up a Vanguard Alta 204AP tripod w/ a PH-32 head mount at Sportsman's Warehouse for $100. It's stable and fairly light, and has a quick attach/detach mount plate. I noticed that Camofire had this same tripod yesterday for $100.

My cheap old discontinued carbon rocketfish is still going strong as can be, compared to a buddies slik and see very little diff in quality so for $44 I'm plenty happy but I think it was a crap shoot between getting a good one as I know another guy that hated his and has quality issues immediately. I upgraded from the stock ball head to the vanguard ph-111 last year and wish I would of done it sooner, this head is just so smooth and extremely well designed/built.

If my tripod ever fails I'll be swapping this head over to whatever I end up with.

I picked up a VANGUARD ALTA+ 255CT CARBON TRIPOD W/ PH-111V PAN HEAD from camo fire and have really enjoyed it. It is not tall enough to use standing up but when hunting or scouting I am not standing straight up very often when looking for animals. It can be adjusted very quick and easy, the legs also have a release button and can go out at all angles. No matter the slope I am on I can get this thing to hold my scope with no issues.
