i got soaked!

i was not expecting any hard rain..

20% light sprinkles..suuuuuurrrrreeee..

i headed out for archery hog. i climbed out and down in the dark. i knew it was overcast. sat in a nice spot and waited for the pink sky to light up enough to glass...poof..out comes the light and it was so overcast. rutroh!

we see deer galore. and wham! HUGE boar on the next hill. we mirrored his movements, and i got close! then the sky opened up. it started pouring! i kept following the pig while my buddy went uphill to see if it ever pops out.. i couldnt close the distance, and a big pig moving across public land is like a supermodel at a nerd convention..everyone ran over for a crack at him. it got busy. so we packed up.

that pig had just about enough and it vanished...i waved at about 4 game cameras..as i trotted by them.

i was drenched..i wore regular cotton pants..<---dumb!..and full wool layers topped with a sitka 90%. apparently, i was hunting in the other 10%, cus i was wet.

my buddy, (call him) Mr Cotton suffered worse. hahaha.

i need to shop for better clothing...wet weather, performance stuff. thinking KUIU..chucach jacket, guide pants..and their puffy. opinions?

the yukon stuff seems too yukony..way to burly and warm? my budget is fairly "ambitious".

heading back tomorrow..i looked at some maps, and talked to a guy..i found a spot we havent hit this year..

Lol! I'm a civil eng. one time my gf came and visited. She was dressed for club hopping. The buzz that shot thru my office was electric. Heads popping up like groundhogs in cubicle city. Guys still ask about her.

Elkmtngear, do you wear rain pants or just use the umbrella? I get more wet from the grass and brush than I do falling rain which is why I ask

i love the idea of an umbrella.

but it wouldnt work for me. the terrain is too rugged. i have to crawl sometimes. my pants get wet from the stuff around me as much as the stuff falling from the sky. and going down these hills..it is a constant "hand ballet"..moving my bow from hand to hand to protect the bow and predict the direction i would fall, if i did fall..an umbrella would be abandoned halfway down.

for me, wearing better clothing is the ticket.

i think an umbrella would be sick while sitting and glassing..but you still need the pants when sitting on a damp ground.

Just the umbrella, a rain shell, and gaiters. I HATE rain pants!

I wear Cabelas Microtex, which are relatively cheap (comparitively)...but dry out quickly if the brush is super high.

Rugged Terrain...convert it to a trekking pole. No more "hand ballet" needed...you learn to use the pole strategically to prevent a screwup.

Glassing...it is the bomb. Just sit on your pack (dry side of the pack is against your back).
