125 grain Vipertrick vs. 175 grain VPA

I have been trying to decide between these two bh's for this upcoming elk and deer season for quite some time. I had never seen either head, although I handled the 100 grain Vipertrick. Paul was kind enough to send me one of each to examine. I live in Wisconsin and it has been frigid here for the past month, so have not been able to do a lot of testing. I usually shoot bh's into a clay/sand hil behind my house, but it is froze like a rock until April.

I did examine both heads closely and was impressed with each in it's own way. The VPA is long and lean and I am sure would penetrate extremely well. The Vipertrick is much shorter, but also looks very formidable with it's unique tip design. Penetration with this head should be excellent as well.

I shot both into a fairly new layered block and placed the shots in areas that had not been shot previously. My expectations were that the VPA would penetrate much farther, but that wasn't the case. Both had equal penetration. Arrows were roughly tuned, not as well as I would normally tune but pretty good, and arrow weight were close.

I like both heads, leaning more towards the Vipertrick right now, but hope to do more testing later.

I don't think you could go wrong with either head.

I just ordered some Viper Tricks....will keep you posted when I shoot them. Curious to see how accurate they are, keep me posted as well.

I had some ST Standards a year ago, they shot better than any BH I ever had, and tough as a tank. But, seemed smallish, so that is why I am looking at Vipertricks. I bet they will have excellent flight.

The standard & viper tricks are both very tough heads, I agree they look a bit small but don't let that fool you they pack a tremendous punch, they are some of my favorite heads!
