Who uses hot melt for carbon and inserts.

I have been doing this for years without a problem. Just take caution in preparing the shaft making sure it is clean of carbon dust and roughed up a little inside. Then I screw an insert on a filed tip and heat my glue stick up a little, smear some glue on the inserts, apply a little heat and press it in, wipe it off and stick in cool water for a minute or two. To remove or adjust for a broadhead that won't spin, heat just the tip of the field point and pull out or turn until the broadhead will spin true.

Anybody else ever used this method? Satisfied with the results?

Sure! There is nothing wrong with that. I used to use hot melt all the time. But somehow over the years, I decided to go with epoxy instead. No special reason why.

I do exactly the same as WW. Both hot melt and epoxy work. I guess I have gone more to the epoxy more because it is supplied with the shafts I buy.

On my FMJ's I use the epoxy supplied. My woodies well they get hot glue.

No hot glue here for carbons, on woodies & aluminum yes but that's about it. I reserve epoxy for carbons myself but they work for aluminum & woodies as well, it's just not needed with them.

If you get a BH that won't spin right, how do you fix it if you have used epoxy. I agree, epoxy would be better, but I get a few bh's that alway need tweaking.

Pete, quite frankly I really don't worry much about a slight wobble on a new head. It doesn't have to be perfect to fly just fine out to 60yds. I've shot many a heads that were perfect & ones with a slight wobble & have seen no difference in accuracy. A head would have to be pretty bad to throw accuracy off course. If that bad I toss them. I'm more concerned with weeding through arrows out of a dozen than a broadhead being tossed because of being bad from the factory, I have bent ferrules & broke blades hitting ground with rock or something very hard itself. This head here hit the steel post in the leg of a Rinehart target. Now this one gets tossed! (grin)

Brad, great observation! You are correct, that arrow & head is still together in my glass trophy case, they are retired there! I was surprised how well the arrow itself held up, it was a heck of whack when it hit there.

I do the same as you as far as prep goes, rough up the inside of the arrow, clean with denatured alcohol and Q-tip, but I use Bohnings insert iron. from what I can tell its like gorilla glue. it takes awhile to setup so I can spin test a head and adjust before it sets. I have to tighten the broad head into the insert before inserting the insert.
