I see Cabela's has the Garmin Map 62S on sale for $200 bucks off. Wonder if Garmin is coming out with a new line?

I don't know. Are you in the market for a new GPS? I wish they would have taken $200 off the Garmin I bought several years ago from Cabelas.

Not sure? If I was looking for a new one I'd check it out though! Thanks for the heads up!

My Garmin rep never mentioned anything. Just holiday sales. We have had a lot of Garmins from $100-$200 off

Looks like a time to upgrade, anyone here have this unit ?
Shows fair to good reviews, I already have a cheap etrex but think I should have one with maps in case I wind up near a place adjoining private land or any other place it shouldn't be.

Just a quick note: When buying gear, especially the higher priced items, always buy the best you can afford. I love my Garmin Montana 650T. I'll never need another unless I damage it somehow from my own fault.

One thing to think about, if you have an Iphone or other smartphone, instead of spending hundreds on a gps unit, get one of the many topo gps apps for your smartphone. This Sept I went on a weeklong backpack elk hunting trip in an area I had never been in and went the iphone route. I put it on airplane mode and it lasted 3 days of being on all day. I then got a battery pack that recharges the phone 2.5 full times for 30$, so I could have gone 10 days easily.

So instead of spending 200-500$ on a gps
I spent 30 for battery pack, 70 on waterproof case and 20 for topo app. So 120$
I saved weight ultimately as it was also my camera and then I didn't need a bunch of extra batteries in two sizes, and one less electronic to keep track of.

You also could do without the spendy case and put it in a ziploc.

The best part is that you download the topo map, and even satellite image of your area which can be very helpful for hunting purposes.

Just something to think about!
