The Rule of Threes

Postby >>>---WW----> » 04 17, 2013 •  [Post 1]

This one is for all you rifle hunters. It's called The Rule of Threes. I think Warren Page came up with it and printed it in Field & Stream back in the 60s. Anyhow, here is how it works.

For just about any good elk caliber rifle: 270, 7mm, 06, 300mag and others. You need to sight in 3 inches high at 100 yards. This will allow you to hold dead on out to and including 300 yards. Thus the 3" dead on at 300 yds. For 400, if you hold just below the backbone, it will drop right in the kill zone.

The exception to the Rule would be that there were no 50mm scopes or see thru mounts at that time. The information was intended for scopes with their cross hairs approxamently 1 1/2 inches above the bore.

I really like the simplicity of this concept, I will give it a shot this year when re-sighting in, thanks!

2.5" high on all my guns and with that i can hold dead on from 0-300 yards......beyond that and I adjust my turret so I can hold dead on rather then hold over, I enjoy my cds dial on my Leupold. :D
