Mdt chassis

Postby wawhitey » 01 30, 2024 •  [Post 1]

My 223 was shooting great but i just cant leave well enough alone, so today i put an mdt hnt26 folding carbon chassis on it, and while i was at it i changed scope / rings and bolt handle. Heading to my parents tomorrow to use my dads range and rezero. This chassis, i was hesitant to buy one, theyre not cheap, but damn is it nice. No buyers remorse at this point. In fact im afraid ill have no choice but to get another for my .243. Im very excited to go shooting tomorrow.

The whole mess now, with a fully loaded 10 round magazine, is 8lb 7oz.

Without the supressor or magazine, its 6lb 10&7/8 oz. Not bad for a gun with an illuminated reticle scope

Spent the morning shooting today. Really like this chassis. My groups opened up just a little bit, but not sure the chassis is to blame for that, as i also changed my 1-10 scope out for a 1-6 scope. Either way, still sub moa 5 shot groups at 200, and ringing the 6in steel at 300 is boringly easy.
Ordered a lifesize coyote steel target. Going to put it at 400 yards and practice on it from various field positions. 400 yards with a 6x scope is a long poke, for me at least. Off the bench is one thing. But field positions, not sure how capable i will be. But thats why i got the target, and why ill be shooting in hunting type positions. Dont ever have a shooting bench handy when im out predator calling. Figured id better really test myself so i know what i can do.

Real wet and nasty out. Not hunting weather. Did a hike up my hill to check a couple cams and hang another and got soaked just walking through wet brush. So sitting inside today got bored and decided to do a paintjob on the 223. Never done this before but i think it turned out good. Im happy with the results. Heading to idaho this coming saturday. Really want to get into a pack of wolves with this thing.

But you gotta see the downside too. For every window in my house that has a shooting bag, figure theres no screen. My living room, dining room, kitchen windows... no screens. So when i open them in the summer im inviting skeeters, yellowjackets, bald faced hornets, flies, and the occasional stupid bird in. And i wouldnt be surprised if one of these days ill be cooking dinner and a hungry bear will come through my window looking for that smell of frying backstrap and roasted brussel sprouts.

You need those fancy magnetic screens. We have one for our front door, they're nice.
